Christian Liaigre (French, 1943–2020) “Amande” Patinated Bronze Floor Lamp

A fine Christian Liaigre “Amande” floor lamp, a sculptural design distinguished by its characteristic almond-form center. Executed in patinated bronze with a matte white (patine blanche) finish and fitted with an aquarelle paper shade.

This example exhibits several noteworthy construction details, including an applied brass plate at the base covering the cord channel, rather than the drilled cord opening seen on other examples, and an early-style silk-wrapped electrical cord. The underside of the base bears the impressed Christian Liaigre “CL” monogram.

The “Amande” is one of Liaigre’s recognizable bronze lighting designs, its restrained sculptural form reflecting the designer’s interest in the work of Alberto Giacometti. Liaigre established his Paris design practice and first Rue de Varenne showroom during the 1980s, developing a body of furniture and lighting characterized by traditional French craftsmanship, noble materials, and understated forms.

Silk wrapping to electrical cord exhibits areas of wear and age. Additional surface wear consistent with age and use. See photographs for complete item and condition details.
