An antique turn-of-the-century oil on canvas landscape painting signed in red in the lower right corner "L. Payson Ames". The composition depicts a  river surrounded by rolling hills and trees.Housed in a molded gilt frame with a leaf-and-scroll outer border. The painting appears to be executed on a primary canvas layer that was adhered on top of a canvas on stretcher. Condition shows notable age-appropriate structural and cosmetic issues: The edges of the painted canvas layer and beginning to peel of from canvas backing at edges. The painted canvas layer appears to have a sag/depression at the center, and general unevenness. The canvas is loose within the frame.  The paint surface exhibits light surface grime, fine craquelure, and minor edge abrasion. The giltwood frame shows hairline cracking to the molding, light rubbing, chipping, and general surface wear. See photos for more item and condition details.
